When I started GullakX, I kept thinking about a very specific conversation. My mother — a schoolteacher, hardworking, responsible — asked me one day whether she and my father had saved enough for retirement. I did the math. The number was not close.

My parents had done everything right by the standards they knew. They had an LIC policy. They had a fixed deposit. They had gold. What they didn't have was a retirement plan — not because they weren't responsible, but because nobody had ever shown them what one looked like, or explained why what they had wasn't enough.

I believe this story is not unique. It is the story of tens of millions of Indian families — families who earn, who save in the ways they know, who want to do the right thing, but who have never had access to honest, clear, jargon-free financial guidance.

Financial planning in India has traditionally been available only to the wealthy — through private wealth managers and financial advisers who work on commission and therefore have incentives that don't always align with the families they serve.
